The cool season runs from November to March, although there's usually a short period in December when temperatures are actually comfortable. The heat starts to increase soon after the new year and by April or May it can be almost unbearably hot and humid. During the rainy season the downpours in Bangkok can be extremely heavy, but generally only last for an hour or so in the afternoon.
Guarding against the heat
The heat and humidity of the weather in Bangkok is a factor when you plan your trip, however, some basic precautions can help your travel more comfortable even during the hottest times of the year. Check the weather forecast before you travel. In terms of clothing, you will probably only bring light cotton clothing, as you have no need for anything heavy in Bangkok. A hat is advisable to protect you from the sun. You should also take precautions to guard against dehydration, a definite danger given the hot weather in Bangkok.
