Wat Pho (the Temple of the Reclining Buddha) is the oldest wats (temple) in Bangkok, and is the home to more than one thousand Buddha images, as well as second largest reclining Buddha in Thailand: the Reclining Buddha.
The Reclining Buddha is 46 metres long and 15 metres high, decorated with gold plating on his body and mother of pearl on his eyes and the soles of his feet. The Buddha's feet are 3 metres long. This is one of the most impressive Buddhist figures in Thailand, and is another place visitors should try to see.
Wat Pho is also the centre of excellence for traditional Thai massage. The temple has a history of medical education and today visitors can have a genuine Thai massage from any of the trained masseurs there. If you've never tried a traditional Thai massage, Wat Pho is a good place to start.
The temple is not far from the Grand Palace (about 1 Kilometre) to the south of the palace and near the river.
WAT Pho is located on Sanam Chai road and Maharaj road next to the Grand Palace. It is open daily between 08:00 - 17:00 hrs, with an admission fee of 50 baht. Tourists must be in polite dress, no shorts, although trousers are permitted.
